There is something rather wonderful about spotting a campaign banner in the middle of a busy local festival, and this week Fund Britain’s Waterways shared exactly that kind of moment.
A flag-waver takes the spotlight
FBW posted a “great photo” of their #FundBritainsWaterways star flag-waver, captured in the Northwich Guardian’s coverage of the Northwich River Festival. It is a cheerful image – a festival packed with people, and there in the thick of it someone proudly flying the flag for our waterways. You can see the post over on the Fund Britain’s Waterways X feed, where the local paper’s headline summed the day up nicely: the town springing to life as thousands enjoyed the return of a much-loved river festival.
Events like this are the beating heart of the campaign. They put the waterways where people can enjoy them and remind everyone – visitors and decision-makers alike – just how much these rivers and canals mean to the communities built around them.
The bigger picture
Fund Britain’s Waterways is a coalition of more than 160 organisations, speaking up for the hundreds of thousands of people who use and love Britain’s canals and rivers. Behind every flag-waver and festival stall is a serious message: our waterways need sustainable, long-term government funding to stay open, safe and thriving for the generations to come. It takes ongoing investment to keep locks working, banks sound and navigations open – and that is exactly what the campaign is asking for.
If a flag by the water makes you smile too, please back the cause: sign the petition at change.org/p/fundbritainswaterways and share it on with #FundBritainsWaterways.
