Here’s a treat for anyone who has followed the transformation of the canal at Staveley — a chance to see the restoration works up close and on foot.
The Chesterfield Canal Trust reports that on Tuesday 18 August, main contractor O’Brien’s are opening up the Staveley Town Deal works for a guided walk. You’ll be able to follow the route all the way from the western end under Eckington Road through to the eastern end at Bellhouse Basin, with escorted visits running from 12.00 until 16.00.
Exact arrangements are still being finalised, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the Trust’s news page for the finer details nearer the time.
It’s not often you get to stand in the middle of a working restoration site and picture the water still to come — a rare and rather special outing for canal lovers across north Derbyshire.
