  • Green & Grounds team gives Gallows Wharf a summer spruce-up

A little tender loving care goes a long way. The Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust’s Green & Grounds team — four adults and three teenagers — recently spent a day at Gallows Wharf, giving the site some welcome attention now that construction there has moved further along.

Armed with gloves and good cheer, the team cleared away brambles and weeds to reveal a rambling rose and other shrubs that had been hiding underneath. Meanwhile, across the canal, work carried on to the display wall.

It is the sort of quiet, unglamorous graft that rarely makes headlines but makes all the difference — turning a tangled corner back into a spot people will want to stop and enjoy. And it is heartening to see younger volunteers working shoulder to shoulder with the old hands.
