  • Rick ‘the Brick’ builds the Gallows Wharf steps

The steps at Gallows Wharf are rising, brick by careful brick.

The Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust has shared a new album of ten photos showing Rick “the Brick” Walters powering ahead on the Gallows Wharf steps this week, with long-serving assistants George and Peter working alongside him.

Sheltered under gazebos and garden umbrellas from the summer sun, the team have plainly been putting in a proper shift, and the brickwork is coming together beautifully.

It’s the kind of patient, skilled volunteer craft that turns a restoration drawing into something you can actually walk down to the water.
