Support for Fund Britain’s Waterways keeps coming from within the network itself, this time from the people who look after it.

Shirley Sefton posted her thanks to Grant, a Canal & River Trust member of staff, at Lock 69 on the Booth Lane flight for backing the campaign. The Booth Lane locks carry the Trent and Mersey Canal down through Sandbach in Cheshire, and it is the CRT teams working locks like these who keep boats moving day to day. Their support matters, because the case for proper funding is strongest when it comes from the people who maintain the waterways as well as those who use them.

Why the campaign matters
Fund Britain’s Waterways is a coalition speaking up for the hundreds of thousands of people who use and love Britain’s canals and rivers. It brings together boaters, anglers, walkers, paddlers and waterside communities to press for sustainable government funding for the network. Without it, locks, bridges and embankments fall into disrepair, closures spread, and the waterways that so many people rely on are put at risk.
