• Barchetta Restaurant Backs Fund Britain’s Waterways

Businesses along the towpath keep getting behind Fund Britain’s Waterways, and the latest to do so is the Barchetta Restaurant.

Barchetta Restaurant at Wheeldon Wharf

Shirley Sefton posted a thank-you to the Barchetta Restaurant at Wheeldon Wharf, which is supporting the Fund Britain’s Waterways campaign cruise. The restaurant has put out a Fund Britain’s Waterways banner and made campaign leaflets available to customers. It is the sort of backing from a canalside business that keeps the funding message in front of people who live and spend time by the water. You can see the original post in the FBW Facebook group.

Why the campaign matters

Fund Britain’s Waterways is a coalition of more than 160 organisations speaking up for the hundreds of thousands of people who use and love Britain’s canals and rivers. It is calling for sustainable, long-term government funding for the authorities that keep these waterways open. Without it, locks, bridges and channels fall into disrepair, and parts of the network are at risk of closure.
