Support at Booth Lane Middle Lock
Shirley Sefton posted from Booth Lane Middle Lock, Lock 68 on the Trent and Mersey Canal, to thank a Canal & River Trust member of staff, Liam, for supporting the Fund Britain’s Waterways campaign. It is a reminder that the people who keep the locks working day to day and the people campaigning for the network’s future are, for the most part, on the same side: they all want the canals kept open and properly looked after. The post appeared on the Fund Britain’s Waterways Facebook group.
Why the campaign matters
Fund Britain’s Waterways is a coalition of organisations speaking up for the hundreds of thousands of people who use and love Britain’s canals and rivers. The Canal & River Trust looks after much of the network, but it can only do so with adequate funding. The campaign is pressing for sustainable, long-term government support so that the staff and volunteers who run the locks are not left trying to hold the system together on a shrinking budget.
