Some places just seem made for a message about caring for our waterways — and the Anderton Boat Lift is surely near the top of the list.
A banner in the perfect place
Fund Britain’s Waterways said a warm thank you to the team at the Anderton Boat Lift for displaying a campaign banner, asking — quite rightly — what better place for it there could be. The Anderton Lift is one of the wonders of our waterways, a great Victorian machine that still lifts boats between the River Weaver and the Trent & Mersey Canal. A campaign banner there is seen by everyone who comes to marvel at it, which makes it a rather brilliant spot to fly the flag for our canals and rivers. Small gestures, shared cause
Fund Britain’s Waterways is a coalition of organisations speaking up for the hundreds of thousands of people who use and love Britain’s canals and rivers. Moments like this — a friendly landmark lending a bit of space to a banner — are a reminder that the campaign runs on goodwill and partnership. Its central request never changes: our waterways need sustainable, long-term government funding so that treasures like the Anderton Lift, and the ordinary miles of canal in between, are kept open and cared for.
