Fancy a gentle stroll with a good helping of local history? The Cotswold Canals Trust’s volunteer-led guided walking tours are running through the summer, and they’re a lovely way to see the restoration up close.
The walks run on Saturdays and Wednesdays with a 10:30am start, from May right through to September, and cost just £5 per person — with all proceeds going straight towards the Trust’s canal restoration efforts. Each route is led by knowledgeable volunteers and comes with its own theme.
You can choose from Stonehouse to Westfield Bridge (the challenge of restoration, on a stretch soon to be completed), Wallbridge to Ebley (the industrial heritage of the Stroudwater Navigation), Fromebridge to Saul Junction (wildlife and water, and the final link to the national canal network), or Wallbridge to Stroud Brewery (the inspiration for volunteering, ending at welcoming canalside businesses).
