There’s no better place to spread the word than a riverside full of people already enjoying the water — and that’s exactly where the campaign turned up this week.
Out with the crowds at Northwich
Fund Britain’s Waterways spent the day at the Northwich River Festival, joining forces with the River Weaver Navigation Society and inviting everyone passing by to come and have a chat. With the banners up, the stall open and crowds lining the riverside, it was a perfect chance to talk to the walkers, families and boaters who make our waterways what they are — and to explain, face to face, why sustainable funding matters so much. Festivals like this are the campaign at its best: friendly, local and rooted in the places people already love.

Why it matters
Fund Britain’s Waterways is a coalition of organisations speaking up for the hundreds of thousands of people who use and love Britain’s canals and rivers. Every conversation struck up at an event like the Northwich River Festival helps build the groundswell of public support the campaign needs — because keeping our waterways open, watered and welcoming depends on sustainable, long-term government funding.
If you couldn’t make it along, you can still lend your support: please sign the petition and share it with #FundBritainsWaterways.
