You know a campaign has caught fire when you can’t even nip to the pub without bumping into it.
“Damn things get everywhere!”
Over in the Fund Britain’s Waterways Facebook group, Andy Williams shared a grin-inducing post from Chester. Heading off to Telford’s Warehouse — the handsome red-brick canalside pub built right over the water — he spotted the campaign’s presence yet again, joking that “damn things get everywhere!” He also put in a good word for the venue: a great hostelry worth visiting, with a fine view of the sunset from upstairs. It’s a lovely bit of towpath life, and a sign of just how far the campaign’s reach now stretches. You can find the post on the Fund Britain’s Waterways Facebook group.
Why it keeps turning up
The reason Fund Britain’s Waterways seems to be everywhere is simple: it’s a coalition of over 160 organisations, speaking up for the hundreds of thousands of us who use and love Britain’s canals and rivers. Places like Telford’s Warehouse — a working canal building given a wonderful second life — are exactly what’s at stake. Keeping our waterways navigable, cared for and full of life takes sustainable, long-term government funding, and that’s the case the campaign makes wherever boaters, walkers and pub-goers gather.
Next time you raise a glass by the water, you can raise your voice too. Please sign the petition and share it using #FundBritainsWaterways.
