The cruise is properly on its way. Fund Britain’s Waterways shared the route for the day, and it’s a good one.
The day’s route
In their post, the campaign said the boats are off: campaigners leaving Ellesmere Port on the Manchester Ship Canal, heading for Marsh Lock, the River Weaver and the Anderton Lift. If you’ve ever watched that grand old boat lift lower a narrowboat down to the Weaver, you’ll know it’s a fitting finish for a day out on the water.
Why it matters
Fund Britain’s Waterways is a coalition of organisations speaking up for the hundreds of thousands of people who use and love Britain’s canals and rivers. The campaign cruise takes the case for our waterways from town to town and lock to lock, making the argument for the proper, sustained funding the network needs to stay open.
