A cruise in full swing
Mike Starnes shared a lovely album from the GOBA / Fund Britain’s Waterways “Navigating for Change” cruise, and the pictures say it all: brilliant blue skies, boats of every shape dressed with Fund Britain’s Waterways signs, busy moorings lined with cruisers and narrowboats, a narrowboat making its way down a green, reed-fringed reach, and a beaming group of campaigners on the pontoon holding the campaign banner aloft. It is the sort of scene that captures exactly why people fall in love with our rivers — friendly, colourful, and full of life.

Behind the smiles, a serious message
For all the sunshine and waving, the cruise carries a serious purpose. Fund Britain’s Waterways is a coalition speaking up for the hundreds of thousands of people who use and love Britain’s canals and rivers, and gatherings like this are how the campaign shows just how many of us there are. Keeping these waterways open and navigable takes sustainable, long-term government funding — without it, days like the one in these photos become harder and harder to enjoy.
