Behind every metre of rebuilt canal, every event, every donation counted and every habitat created and protected, there’s one thing in common: a volunteer.
To mark Volunteers’ Week 2026 — the national celebration held each June — the Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust took a moment to thank the incredible people who make its restoration work possible. It’s a fitting pause in a year of hard graft along the Lichfield Canal, recognising that none of the progress happens without the hands, hearts and hours that volunteers give.
Whether they’re out on the towpath shifting spoil, welcoming visitors at events, keeping the books, or nurturing the wildlife that thrives along the water, the Trust’s volunteers are the engine of the whole endeavour. Volunteers’ Week is a chance to say a simple, warm thank-you to all of them.
At Love Canals we’re delighted to share the Trust’s appreciation — and if reading this makes you want to get involved, there’s always room for another pair of hands.
