When a company team-building day means widening a canal access track and de-gorsing an old narrowboat, you know the Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust has found willing helpers. Jaguar Land Rover’s Asset Management team rolled up their sleeves for a two-day build with the Trust – and got through a remarkable amount.
On day one, nine volunteers finished widening the access into Darnford Moors Ecology Park before tackling some serious “gardening” on Falkland Road, around the Fosseway Queen, the Heritage Trail and the towpath. A fantastic effort all round – and a proper warm-up for what was to come.
Day two kept up the pace: mowing paths in the large field on Falkland Road, working along the towpath and the canal bed at Fosseway, and tidying the entrance to the site. A special mention went to Damola, assisted by the Trust’s John Clark, who de-gorsed the front of the Fosseway Queen to expose her side to the road once more.
After an early start, the group headed off for an early dinner at a local inn – followed, incredibly, by a six-mile hike. Hats off to the JLR team, and to everyone who keeps the Lichfield Canal moving forward. Find out more about the Trust’s volunteer days at lhcrt.org.uk.
