• Tapton Lock Visitor Centre turns one — open weekend in July

The Chesterfield Canal Trust’s Tapton Lock Visitor Centre is celebrating its first birthday, and a new lease, with an open weekend on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July, 10am to 4pm each day.

Alongside the usual coffee, cakes, ice creams, information and merchandise, there will be displays on what is planned for the canal’s future — and a chance to see the upstairs offices, now home to Development Manager George Rogers. The trip boat John Varley II will be in the lock on the Saturday.

Whether you are a regular or simply passing, do drop in to wish the centre a happy first year.
