• Brownhills Canal Festival returns for a weekend on the water

There’s a proper day out on the towpath this summer: the Brownhills Canal Festival is back on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August 2026 — and it’s completely free.

Held at Silver Street Moorings on the Wyrley & Essington Canal, the festival brings the water to life with floating traders, historic narrowboats, food boats and dozens of craft and land stalls. There’s a free Chasewater Railway bus running all weekend, and even Ebony the Shire Horse will be there to meet.

Organised by the Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust, it runs 10am to 4pm both days. Whether you’re a boater, a family after a fun day out, or simply curious about canal life, it’s well worth the trip to Brownhills.
