• Fifty years of the Chesterfield Canal — a celebration at Clayworth

The Chesterfield Canal Trust and Society turns fifty this year, and everyone is invited to help mark the milestone. The celebration takes place on Saturday 27 September 2026, from 10am to 4pm, at the Retford & Worksop Boat Club, Clayworth DN22 9AJ — with free admission and free parking.

There is plenty to fill a day by the water: boat cruises aboard Seth Ellis and Hugh Henshall (also running on the 26th), the replica Cuckoo boat Dawn Rose and the workboat Python, and presentations on the long campaign to save the canal and the restoration going on today. Add the James Brindley promotional trailer, static traction engine displays, live local music, children’s face painting, and a bar with tea, coffee and hot dogs, and it makes a fine way to celebrate half a century of a canal brought back to life.
